Rising Welsh singer-songwriter Cara Hammond has today unveiled a brand new video for her latest single, ‘Green Vase’.
Released last month, the track is the final teaser from Hammond’s forthcoming EP Borderlines, due to be released on November 3rd, and sees the artist employ a more neo-soul adjacent sound. Having previously dropped two other preview singles – title track ‘Borderlines’ and EP opener ‘America’ – ‘Green Vase’ is a stylistic shift from the indie folk and alt-country of the rest of the EP, and leans further into soundscapes influenced by downtempo electronic acts such as Maribou State.
The video, which was shot on location at a lake in the Italian region of Lombardy by collaborator Jake Pollard, works well to set the mood of the track, adding a sense of serenity as Hammond is shown floating on the surface of the water. This sense of floating marries well with the way the track makes the listener feel, matching up with the tranquil production and the vocals that glide over the top. The scenes where Hammond sits at dusk overlooking the picturesque scenery of the region also adds well to the introspective nature of the track, amplifying the pensive themes of her lyrics.
While not exactly a newcomer, having already released a couple of EPs dating back to 2017, this track in particular is a significant artistic step forward and highlights exactly where she intends to move in future. With this release alongside the forthcoming EP, it seems as though Cara Hammond might just be ready to take that elusive step forward into the limelight with Borderlines.
