TROPICAL SKIN BYRDS

‘VENUS IN FURY’

(S/T EP – 13/1 – WHARF CAT RECORDS)

Tropical Skin Byrds are a punk trio from the US, presenting in full fervour their first EP – five tracks of purposefully prominent punk that delivers as intense a narrative as the unruly music that backs it. Formed by Nina Hartmann, ZZ Ramirez and Shawn Halpin, the group have shared another impactful note of their upcoming self-titled EP in ‘Venus In Fury‘ – a distinctly tormented two minutes that ultimately delivers.

Utterly brazen in expression and physicality, ‘Venus In Fury‘ intensifies the blurred perception of suffering and satisfaction and exposes bleak, exacerbated emotions in an unbearingly human way. Guitars strike unpolished and in non-categorical motion, the sharp clarity in its distortion only matched by Nina Hartmann’s compounding conveyance – “you tied me up here and left me here to die” sounds as irrevocably unbalanced when enunciated as it reads. It’s indisputably  stark in its thematics, and that’s what makes it important – Tropical Skin Byrds channel inauspicious situations through a primarily incensed source.

Tropical Skin Byrds‘, their new self-titled EP, is available 13th January via Wharf Cat Records. Listen to ‘Venus In Fury‘ and previous single ‘Cut It Off‘ below.
