Gig Guide: Grove, Trash Boat and Black Dahlia

by Freya Waters

Here to distract you from the gloom and doom of Sunday blues, we have a selection of gigs for you this week – something to look forward to after our dreary office jobs. From Grove, the producer and vocalist who combines Bass, Dancehall and Hip-Hop to create fierce tracks, to Johnny Nash, regarded as a distinctive voice in the ambient scene, there’s something for everyone in our city this week.

Y + ELLiS D + Horsefair

Where: The Lanes

When: Sunday 1st February, doors at 19:30

Vibes: Experimental, Jazz Fusion

Y is Adam Brennan and Sophie Coppin, who blend shared tastes with contrasting stylistic approaches. This paradox birthed the eclectic, unpredictable sound that defines Y—playfully described as “wonk rock,” “Gameboy thrash,” and even “Egyptian wedding music.”

Jonny Nash + Ezra Feinberg

Vibe: Ambient, Contemporary classical, Jazz, Electronic

Expect washed-out guitar textures, e-bow and electronics. Jonny Nash is a main player in the new wave of ambient music. Tonight he performs a duo set with Japanese cello player Tomo Katsurada.

Grove

Lacross Club are bringing some Welsh punk – expect loud guitars and high energy! The group came together during their studies, quickly finding a shared passion for raw punk rock.
