Rising Danish star GRETA sends us icy disco grooves on ‘Wonder’

The rising synth-pop star GRETA has delivered ‘Wonder’, another shimmering track from her forthcoming sophomore album Forever We’ll Be Dancing.

Following acclaim in her home country of Denmark for her 2020 debut Ardent Spring, this return has seen her produce four singles from the hotly anticipated follow up release, all of which have developed into an intoxicating melange of sleek disco grooves. Possessing an arsenal of glistening chimes and icy synths, there’s a childlike quality to the track that ties in with the themes of letting go of fears and losing all inhibitions. On the flipside, the club-ready nature of the track signifies growing out of this fear to enter a state of euphoric freedom.

While having expressed a childhood love for the likes of ABBA and Kate Bush, it’s clear that influences span further than this on the track, bringing to mind both the futurism of Giorgio Moroder’s classic Italo-disco and the otherworldly new-age compositions of Pauline Anna Strom. It’s this unifying of sounds that GRETA manages to accomplish so well alongside producer and collaborator Farao (from Norwegian/Icelandic pop duo Ultraflex), and which gives the track such a bold presence.

With the enchanting wonderland it creates, this final glimpse into what GRETA has in store with her new record is certainly one that sticks in the mind and leaves a solid impression – all we can ask is that it lives up to its promise.
